On Saturday, January 21st, Mount Calvary Baptist Church hosted its 6th Wild Game Banquet. The Mount Calvary Baptist gymnasium and fellowship building were decorated with many novelty items, including mounted wild game.
Church members assisted in a variety of ways. Some members caught or harvested the wild game. Many spent much time preparing the dishes. Choices included roasted deer, frog legs, fried fish, deer burgers, catfish stew, alligator, quail, deer smoked sausage, dove, pheasant, desserts, and many other delicious dishes. There were also “tame” dishes for those who did not want wild game.
The guest speaker was Gary Miller. Gary is a writer, speaker, author, and avid outdoorsman. His column, Outdoor Truths, appears in approximately 70 newspapers and regional magazines across 18 states. It is a blend of observations and experiences that have come over time from being in God’s great outdoors. His two books, Outdoor Truths, Hunting and Fishing For Answers, Volumes I and II, are a completion of the columns that have appeared in weekly newspapers for the past eight years. Gary serves as a pro staff member for several outdoor companies including PSE Archery, Alpen Optics, Kentucky Antler Company, and Schiek Sports. His sponsors include Hevi-Shot, LaCrosse Footwear, Flyway Supply, and others.
Gary shared about how he has spoken to outdoorsmen all over the nation, yet he has never met one who is an atheist. Gary explained how creation helps man to know there is a God. He taught that the only way to know this God was through faith in Jesus. Jesus is the perfect Son of God who died to pay man’s sin debt and then rose victorious over death. By surrendering one’s life to Jesus, anyone may begin a relationship with the one true God. Gary invited the attendees to surrender their lives to Jesus, so that they too could know this great God. At the end of the night, there was a free drawing. Some of the prizes were 3 rod and reels, a tackle box, and 8 gallons of Urge Concentrated Deer Attractant. The grand prize was a 12 gauge shotgun.
This banquet is a ministry to the community.
It is a way to demonstrate the love of God. Mount Calvary Baptist Church is located at 405 Mount Calvary Road, Dillon.
