Eighteen members of the Glove and Trowel Garden Club met on April 8, 2015 at 3 p.m. at the Dillon Wellness Center with Rosemary Bethea as hostess.
After a period of fellowship and refreshments, newly elected President, Julie Sawyer, called the meeting to order, welcomed members, and extended birthday greetings to Rosemary Bethea (April 7) and Dawn Arnette (April  21).
Special guest, Maggie Riales, presented a map of Commerce Drive and pointed out several areas for relocating our Garden Club of South Carolina Roadside Sign.
After the reading of our Garden Club Collect, minutes of the March meeting were read by Molly Pittman, Secretary, and approved.  A Treasurer’s Report was given by Ditto Jenkins. An invitation has been received from the Yellow Jessamine Garden Club inviting us to their 75th Anniversary to be held at the Dillon Wellness Center on Sunday, May 17 from 3 – 4:30 P.M.
Following our business meeting, Jamie Sue Stephens, Program Presenter, asked everyone to go outside to our “Edible/Pollinator” Educational Node IV located along the walking path for our “DEDICATION PROGRAM.”  Three trees were dedicated in memory of three of our deceased members.  
Assisting Jamie Sue in the dedication were Kathryn Bumgardner and Natalie Wallace.  Plaques identifying the tree, the person, and date of dedication were placed in front of each tree. The following three members were all active, enthusiastic members, who served faithfully in every capacity pertaining to a garden club and are missed by all of us
Eulalia Cranford (b.11- 21, 1924 – d. 6-9- 2013) “Weeping Redbud”
(Tribute by Jamie Sue Stephens) Eulalia joined the Glove and Trowel Garden Club in January of 1962 and served as President from 1969 – 1971.  She became a Lifetime Member of the South Carolina Garden Club in 1995, and a South-Atlantic Region Life Member in 2009.  The 2013 – 2014 Yearbook was dedicated in her memory.
Betty Sue Gibbons (b.4-1-1931 – d. 6-27-2013 ) “Red Sunset Maple”
(Tribute by Kathryn Bumgardner) Betty Sue joined the Glove and Trowel Garden Club in 1954 and served as President from 1963 – 1965.  She became a Lifetime member of the South Carolina Garden Club in 1992, and a South Atlantic Region Life Member in 2008.  Our 2003 – 2004 Yearbook was dedicated in her Honor along with Emma Leah Lucius.
Emma Leah Lucius (b.5- 2 -1928 – d. 3-14, 2009) – “Ruby Falls” Redbud
(Tribute by Natalie Wallace) – Emma Leah joined the Glove and Trowel Garden Club in 1953 and served as President three times: 1959 – 1961; 1984 – 1985; and 1992 – 1994.  She became a Lifetime member of the South Carolina Garden Club in 1992, and a  South-Atlantic Region Life Member in 2008.  The Glove and Trowel Garden Club 2009 – 2010 yearbook was dedicated in her memory.  Also, our 2003 – 2004 Yearbook was dedicated in her Honor along with Betty Sue Gibbons. The 2001-2002 Yearbook was dedicated In Honor of her husband, Henry “Bud” Lucius, an avid gardener specializing in daylilies and a member of the National Daylily Society.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday (May 19) when we will join the Dillon Garden Club at Santee for a 2-hour history/wildlife boat tour on “FISHEAGLE WILDLIFE TOURS” with Molly Pittman, Hostess, and Linda Dutton, Program Presenter.
The Glove and Trowel is a member of the Coastal District of the GCSC, the Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc, the South Atlantic Region, and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
