The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office is receiving an overwhelming amount of tax fraud and identity theft complaints, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
As it is tax filing season individuals are having their taxes done and filing their return and are being rejected because the Internal Revenue Service is showing that the taxes have already been filed.
“If you are a victim of tax fraud contact the Sheriff’s Office at 843-774-1432, and we will assist you with the necessary paperwork to help you with the tax fraud,” said Arnette.
If you have not been a victim of tax fraud, you may want to do a credit check with the major credit reporting vendors (i.e. Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) and make sure that there has not been anyone applying for any type loans or credit cards using your personal information, Arnette said.
