The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors traveled to Hartsville Thursday for a non-region game with the Emmanuel Christian School Crusaders.
The Warriors downed the young Crusader team 20-13 in seven innings of play. Warrior centerfielder Madison King had to leave the game early and was taken to the hospital. It was later discovered that King was suffering from a severe kidney infection. The Warriors dedicated the game and victory to King, a teammate they affectionately refer to as Super Squirrel.
The Warriors produced 21 hits in the game and played some very good defense. The Warriors led 2-0 after two and a half innings but the Crusaders evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the second. The Warriors had a 5-3 lead after four innings and moved ahead 8-5 in the fifth.
The Warriors had a big at bat sixth inning, producing nine runs and a 17-5 lead. Leah Stephens came in to relieve Jamie Carpenter on the mound but did not have time to get warmed up properly which resulted in the Crusaders picking up six runs to close the inning trailing the Warriors 17-11.
The Warriors added three runs in the top of the seventh inning, holding the Crusaders to two for a 20-13 Warrior victory.
On the mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted two strikeouts with one walked batter and allowed eight hits with five runs scored in five and a half innings for the win.
For the Crusaders, Madison Hendrix posted two strikeouts with five walked batters and allowed 19 hits with 17 runs scored for the loss. Abby Clark closed the game for the Crusaders, adding a strikeout with two walked batters with two hits and three runs scored.
At bat for the Crusaders, Lindsay Goldboch was 3-for-5 with a double and two stolen bases; Hunter Cassidy was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly RBI; Abby Clark was 2-for-3; Brianna Morris was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI; Rachael Rains was 2-for-5 with three RBI; Madison Hendrix was 1-for-4 getting to base on an error with one RBI; and Chandler Morrel got to base on an error with one RBI.
At bat for the Warriors, Samantha Carpenter was 4-for-6 with a double and a triple with three RBI and a stolen base; Ansley Hamer was 4-for-6 with a triple and two fielder’s choice hits with three RBI; Jamie Carpenter was 3-for-4 with a fielder’s choice and two stolen bases; Leah Stephens was 3-for-5 with a triple, also getting to base on three walks; Erin Hamer was 3-for-5 with a triple and four RBI; Sara Bass was 2-for-4, also getting to base on a walk and a hit by a pitch; Hannah Walters was 2-for-6 with two RBI and a stolen base; and Emilie Martin got to base on an error with two walks and one RBI.
