Four Wildcats scored in double digits as Dillon earned a 71-49 win over the Loris Lions at home on Monday night in boys varsity basketball action.
The Wildcats took a 20-16 lead in the first quarter and outpaced the Lions 9-4 in the second to lead 29-20 at the half. A 28-15 third quarter kept the Wildcats ahead at 57-35, and both teams added 14 points in the fourth to allow Dillon to preserve the win.
Eri’Reon Hayes led Dillon with a team-high 15 points and Omar McCollum, Avery McCall, and Lawrence Crouch each earned 13 points for the Wildcats. Que Bethea earned 8; JaQuan Knowlin, 4; Raheem McClam, 3; and Joe Manning added two points in the win.
Loris was led by Hedien Goodman with a game-high 17 points and Trevon Morgan with 1. Travis Walters added 7; Marquell Bellamy, 6; Zeke Beckman, 3; Corenza Johnson, 2; Junior Long, 2; and Marquise Powell, 1.
The Wildcats improved to 12-9 overall and 6-3 in Region 8-2A while Loris slipped to 6-11 overall and 1-8 in the region.
The Wildcats were scheduled to host Waccamaw on Wednesday night to wrap up the regular season.
The Class AA boys state basketball playoffs will begin on Wednesday, February 18. The Wildcats are currently ranked third in the region, which would mean Dillon will be on the road for the first round of playoffs to face the second place team from Region 7.
UPDATE: Dillon defeated Waccamaw on Wednesday night to create a 7-3 tie with the Warriors in Region 8-2A. The Wildcats will play Waccamaw tonight in Loris at 7:30 p.m. to determine their region finish.
