Latta’s Lady Vikings earned a 64-35 win over the Green Sea Floyds Trojans at home in Latta on Friday, February 6.

The Lady Vikings took a 22-14 lead in the first quarter and carried a 38-22 lead into the half. Latta outscored the Trojans 26-13 in the second half to seal the win.

TaKeria Legette scored a game-high 29 points, including two three-pointers, with 12 rebounds and seven assits in the win for the Vikings. Maya Wright scored 11 points with three-point baskets and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds with three assists.

Mallory Townsend and Madelia Johnson each added 10 points in the win, with Townsend grabbing 11 rebounds with four assist and Johnson picking up eight rebounds with one assist.

Margaret Desser contributed two points for the Vikings with one rebound and one assist, and TyKeria Manning also added two points in the win. Iyonna McKenzie also picked up seven reounbds with five assists for the Vikings.

The Lady Trojans were led by Tamara Jackson with 16 points. Quadasia Gillard added 8; Paige McDaniels, 4; Kensenya Jackson, 2; Lakesha Johnson, 2; Brianna Holmes, 2; and Leen El Harake, 1.

Gillard grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds for the Trojans and made two assists and one steal. McDaniels picked up seven rebounds, and Jackson made a team-high four steals and three assists and picked up two defensive rebounds.

Latta improved to 13-3 overall and remained undefeated at 8-0 in Region 8-A, while Creek Bridge slipped to 0-8 in the region.

Latta will wrap up regular season action on the road this week, taking on Carvers Bay tonight and Hemingway on Thursday. The Lady Bears are 7-1 in the region, and Hemingway is 5-3 heading into the week. A win over the Bears should secure the region title for the Vikings.

The 2015 Class A girls basketball state playoffs are set to begin next Monday, February 16, with the first and second place teams in the region hosting the opening rounds.
