Dillon’s 8U Dixie Darlings dropped the first game of the 2014 Dixie Darlings World Series in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, on Saturday but stayed alive on Sunday with wins over Virginia and Georgia.
Dillon, representing South Carolina, opened the tournament on Saturday, July 26, with a 5-1 loss to Alabama, while Texas defeated Virginia 7-4 to advance. Louisiana defeated Mississippi 11-4 on Saturday; Tennessee defeated host team Bay St. Louis 22-1; and Florida defeated Georgia 7-4.
The Dillon Darlings faced elimination on Sunday morning, but won their first game of the day 15-3 to eliminate Virginia. Jena Stutler hit the first homerun of the entire Dixie Youth World Series in the win for Dillon.
In the winners bracket, North Carolina defeated Florida 8-0 to advance; Louisiana defeated Tennessee 15-9 to advance; and Alabama defeated Texas 13-6. In the other elimination bracket game on Sunday morning, Georgia shut out Bay St. Louis 18-0.
On Sunday afternoon, Dillon again faced elimination, but earned a 16-5 win over Georgia to stay alive in the World Series. Also in the elimination bracket matches, Mississippi knocked off Texas 7-4, and Tennessee eliminated Florida 7-1.
In the only winners bracket game on Sunday night, Louisiana defeated North Carolina 7-5 to advance.
Dillon’s Dixie Darlings were scheduled to face North Carolina at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, while Mississippi will take on Tennessee in the elimination bracket. In the winner bracket, Alabama and Louisiana will face off.

Bay St. Louis was also set to host the first ever 6U Dixie SweeTees World Series beginning on Saturday, July 25. Aynor won the South Carolina state title and is representing the state in the tournament.
In Saturday’s first round games, Mississippi defeated Virginia 21-0; North Carolina defeated host team Bay St. Louis 15-1; Tennessee defeated Florida 25-4; and Alabama edged Aynor 21-20.
North Carolina took on Louisiana to open Sunday’s action, with Louisiana advancing with a 22-0 shut out win. Tennessee defeated Alabama 22-17 in the other winners bracket game on Sunday afternoon.
In the elimination bracket, Bay St. Louis knocked off Virginia 25-14, while Aynor edged Florida 16-15 to stay alive in the World Series.
Aynor opened the action on Sunday night with a 12-0 win over North Carolina, while Alabama eliminated Bay St. Louis 23-2 to advance. In the only winners bracket game of the night, Louisiana defeated Mississippi 27-17.
Aynor was set to play Mississippi on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. while Louisiana will take on Tennessee. If Aynor wins, they will face the loser of the Louisiana/Tennessee game on Tuesday, while the winner of that game will face Alabama. The tournaments are scheduled to continue through Wednesday.
