After taking a 10-0 loss to Aynor last on Tuesday night, Latta’s Lady Vikings earned a 7-2 win over Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators on Friday to claim a second place finish in Region 8-A.
Latta traveled to Aynor on Tuesday night and fell 10-0 in five innings. Courtney Bracey took the loss on the mound, pitching 3.3 innings for 10 runs, seven hits, and five walks. Kurstin Hopkins pitched 0.6 innings for one hit.
At bat for Latta, Camryn Sawyer went 1-for-3 with a triple; Madison Owens went 1-for-2 with a double; and Macy Hyatt went 1-for-2.
On Friday, the Lady Vikings celebrated senior night as they claimed a 7-2 win over Lake View.
The Lady Vikings scored first in the bottom of the first inning and added three runs in the third and two in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. Lake View got on the board in the top of the fifth, and both teams added one run in the seventh to allow Latta to claim the 7-2 win and second place in Region 8-A.
Latta’s Anna Rogers earned the win on the mound, pitching seven innings for two runs, two hits, and four walks, striking out 10. Lake View’s Marissa Tyndall took the loss, with Morgan Herlong sharing pitching duties.
At bat for Latta, Madison Owens went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer, three RBI, one stolen base, and two runs scored. Kaleigh Caulder went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs; Macy Hyatt went 2-for-3 with one RBI; Genesis Anderson went 1-for-3 with two RBI; Dori Webster went 1-for-3 with one RBI; and Camryn Sawyer went 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored. The Lady Vikings had 11 hits in the win.
Lake View was led by Morgan Herlong, 1-for-3, and Ashley Rogers, 1-for-2 with two runs scored. The Lady Gators had just two hits in the effort.
Latta finished up the regular season with an 11-4 record overall and a 6-2 record in Region 8-A. Lake View slipped to 12-6 overall and 4-4 in the region for third place.
Latta will host Scott’s Branch in the first round of the District V playoffs on Thursday, May 1. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
Lake View’s Lady Gators were scheduled to wrap up the regular season by hosting Mullins on Monday night in a non-conference game. Lake View will travel on Thursday night to face Carver’s Bay in the first round of the District VI playoffs.
