The Lake View Lady Wild Gator softball team traveled to Dillon Tuesday for a scrimmage game with the Lady Warriors of Dillon Christian School and took the best of the event by a score of 14-1.
The Wild Gators look very good this year with lots of talent in the field and a good bench for support. They are well coached by Brandi and James Huggins and should be a force to be dealt with in their division. Neither team is where the want to be for season play but the Wild Gators are well ahead of the Warriors at this point in the season with most of the Warriors having less than a full week of practice due to the basketball season.
The Wild Gators took a 3-0 first quarter lead and extended it to 5-0 by the end of two. The third inning was scoreless but the Wild Gators added two runs in the top of the fourth with the Warriors getting their lone run as Sarah Fitzgibbon sent Samantha Carpenter home on a hit closing the fourth inning with Lake View leading 7-1.
Lake View had some good at bats in the fifth and sixth innings, adding three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth with their defense and pitching keeping the Warriors off the board for the 14-1 lead.
On the mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted three strikeouts, two walked batters, and one batter to base on a hit by pitch, allowing 14 hits with 14 runs scored in the loss.
On the mound for Lake View, Marissa Tyndall pitched four innings, posting nine strikeouts, three walked batters, and two hits for the win. Morgan Herlong pitched two innings, posting three strikeouts, one walked batter, and no hits.
At bat for the Warriors, Sarah Fitzgibbon was 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Samantha Carpenter, Leah Stephens, Madison Moody, and Katie Tyner made it to base on walks.
For the Wild Gators, Morgan Herlong was 3-for-3 with three RBI; Sydnee Church was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI; Ashley Rogers was 2-for-3 with a RBI; Madison Cox was 1-for-2 with two RBI; Jasmine Ford was 1-for-1; Marissa Tyndall was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI and made it to base on an error; Madison Greene was 1-for-2 and got to base on two walks; Ally Spivey was 1-for-3 with a double; Madison Mathews was 1-for-3, also getting on base with an error and a RBI; Logan Spivey was 1-for-3 with a walk; Amber Locklear made it to base on a hit by pitch and had a fielder’s choice RBI; Hannah Miller got to base on an error; and Kayce Wong got to base on an error.
