The Lady Warriors of Dillon Christian School finished the regular season with a 42-11 loss to their top rival, the Lady Golden Eagles of Pee Dee Academy, on Monday night in Dillon.
The game that was originally scheduled for play on the 14th and delayed by snow ended what must have seemed a long and trying season for six young ladies that finished with no wins.
The truth is these may be the most courageous players in the history of Warrior Basketball. In the beginning they knew they had little chance of winning. Most of the six girls signed up so the school would have a team this year. It was noted that several persons with athletic skills chose not to assist the program. These young girls chose to honor their school and not themselves and that makes them winners.
The Lady Warriors did not have anyone keep stats for them this season so two of the Warriors former great lady athletes, Lauren Lee and Amanda Bass, volunteered to keep the game’s stats for this final game. Lee and Bass were home visiting from college.
The Warriors observed senior night and Sarah Fitzgibbon and Greta Seay were honored.
The Warriors did a lot of shooting but could not find the net and trailed 31-1 at the halftime break. The Warrior defense was fighting hard in the second half and, along with some good sportsmanship from the Golden Eagle coaching staff, held the Eagles to 11 points in the second half.
On the score board for the Golden Eagles, Meg Webster had eight points, Karlee Dozier and Jynifer Smith had six points each; Holden Gasque had five points; Kaitlin Estes and Taylor Herrington had four points each; Hannah Martin had three points, and Shea Gregg, Katelyn Caulder, and Tori Johnson had two points each.
On the scoreboard for the Warriors, Samantha Carpenter had eight points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal; Emily Martin scored two points with three rebounds, an assist, and a steal; Greta Seay added a point with four rebounds and two steals; Sarah Fitzgibbon made seven rebounds with two steals; Madison King picked up three rebounds with an assist and a steal; and Jamie Carpenter had two rebounds.
