The Latta Vikings defeated local rival Lake View on Friday, January 24, with the girls picking up a 65-24 win and the boys winning 97-52.
In girls action, Latta took a 22-0 lead in the first quarter and both teams added 12 points in the second to give the Lady Gators a 34-12 lead at the half. The Lady Vikings kept up the pressure in the second half, outscoring Lake View 31-12 to secure the win.
Latta’s Jessica Evans scored a game-high 22 points in the win, and TaKeria Legette earned 18. Britanny Burgess added six points, and Mallory Townsend, Madelia Johnson, and Tyjhane Faison each added four. Iyonna McKenzie and Iryanna Keene each earned two points, and Margaret Desser and Michia Johnson each contributed one in the win.
Olivia McDaniel led the Lady Gators in the effort with seven points, with Jasmine Ford added six and Pamela Butler earning five. Kayla Page scored four, and Diayah Williams added two for Lake View.
Latta improved to 8-4 and 3-1 in Region 8-A, while Lake View slipped to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the region.
In boys action, Latta took a 22-8 lead in the first quarter and outscored Lake View 25-18 in the second for a 47-26 lead at the half. The Vikings poured in the points in the second half, out pacing Lake View 27-12 in the third and 23-14 in the fourth to seal the win.
Tyrell Sabb led the Vikings with a game-high 25 points and Kartilus McFadden added 19. R.J. McClam and Jordan Simms each added 10 points and C.J. Mace added nine. Quane Williams and Chakeem Blake added six points each and Kel Williamson scored four, with Darren Pernell and Jordan Smith each contributing two points in the win.
Lake View was led by Crishon Jordan with 14 points and Reco Brown with 11. Chavis Nichols added 10 points in the effort, and Thomas Butler scored six, with Anthony Bines scoring four. Jeremiah Cribb, Xavier Johnson, and Duane Nichols each added two points for the Gators.
Latta improved to 5-5 overall and 4-0 in Region 8-A while Lake View remains winless this season.
Tonight, the Vikings are scheduled to travel to Johnsonville to face the Flashes, and on Friday, Latta will host Green Sea-Floyds.
Meanwhile, Lake View is scheduled to be at Green Sea-Floyds tonight and will host Hannah-Pamplico on Friday.
