New champions were crowned and new records were set in Columbia this weekend as teams from across the state met for the state title.

In Class 2A, Division II, Batesburg-Leesville defeated Silver Bluff 28-24 for the state title. Silver Bluff scored six points in each quarter, but the Batesburg-Leesville added 20 points in the second for a 20-14 half-time lead and added eight points in the fourth for the win.

In Class 3A, Myrtle Beach defeated Daniel 24-21 for the title. Myrtle Beach took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter but Daniel tied things up 7-7 by the half. Both teams added seven points in the third to maintain a 14-14 tie, and both teams added seven points in the fourth to go 21-21. Myrtle Beach’s Sean Huggins hit a 22-yard field goal as time expired to seal the win, capping a 67 yard push across 12 plays.

The win marks the seventh state title for the Myrtle Beach Seahawks, the last coming in 2010.

In Class 4A, Division I, Dutch Fork took a 54-14 win over Sumter for the crown. Dutch Fork took a 17-14 lead over Sumter in the first quarter and added 16 in the second, 14 in the third, and seven in the fourth for the win. It’s the first ever state title for the Silver Foxes.

In Class 4A, Division II, Northwestern defeated Stratford 62-35. Northwestern took a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and outscored Stratford 14-7 in the second for a 35-14 lead at the half. Northwestern added 27 points in the second half to seal the win, while Stratford managed 21.

The game set a new record for the most combined points in a state championship game at 97 points. Mason Rudolph also set a state championship game record with eight touchdown passes for Northwestern.
