Dillon’s Lady Wildcats ended their season on Monday, November 4, with a 3-2 loss to Waccamaw in round three of the Class 2A varsity volleyball playoffs for a 15-3 record.

The Wildcats won the first two sets 27-25 and 25-20 but the Waccamaw Warriors came alive in the third and dominated the rest of the match with scores of 25-11, 25-11, and 15-8.

Da’Kerhia Samuel led the Wildcats with 14 kills, 10 digs, three blocks, and three aces; Shayna Covington made 30 digs; Rebecca Callahan made 24 assists and three kills; Leah McMillan made 20 digs and three kills; Desiree McLain made seven kills, four digs, and one assist; Breana Park made five kills, two digs, and two blocks; Johnna Rogers made 11 digs; and Holly Vaughn made four digs, two kills, and one assist.

Callahan scored 11 service points for the Wildcats; McMillan, 9; Samuel, 7; Vaughn, 5; and Rogers and Covington each scored four.

Waccamaw made a total of 56 kills with five blocks in the win.

The Lady Wildcats finished the season with a 15-3 record.

Samuel made 211 kills, 35 aces, and 33 blocks for the Wildcats this season and Park made 118 kills with 26 blocks. Callahan made 356 assists, 24 aces, and 158 digs this season and Covington made 184 digs with McMillan making 134.

McMillan scored 171 service points for Dillon this season; Callahan, 155; Samuel, 193; VAughn, 93; Park, 69; and Covington and Johnna Rogers each scored 66.

The state volleyball playoffs continued on Wednesday, November 6, with Bishop England sweeping Waccamaw in Class 2A with scores of 25-11, 25-9, and 25-13 to claim the lower state title. Andrew Jackson defeated Ninety-Six 3-1 in the upper state with scores of 25-10, 24-26, 25-18, and 25-20.

Bishop England went on to claim the state title on Saturday, November 9, sweeping Andrew Jackson 3-0 with scores of 25-11, 25-14, and 25-13.

In Class A, Branchville defeated Johnsonville for the Class A Lower State Title, sweeping the Flashes 25-13, 25-14, and 25-13. In the upper state, St. Joseph’s claimed the title with a 3-0 win over Southside Christian with scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-11.

Branchville advanced to the state championship game where they fell 3-1 to St. Joseph’s with scores of 25-17, 24-26, 25-19, and 25-12.

In Class 3A, North Myrtle Beach swept Airport for the lower state title and Pickens defeated Chapin 3-1 in the upstate. Pickens swept North Myrtle Beach 3-0 for the state title with scores of 25-12, 25-23, and 25-15.

In Class 4A, Wando defeated Aiken for the lower state title and Hillcrest defeated Dorman 3-1 with scores of 25-16, 24-26, 29-27, and 25-23 for the upper state title. Hillcrest claimed the state title with a 3-2 win over Wando with scores of 13-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-16, and 15-8.
