Like the gangster in one of the old movies said just before he got shot to pieces, “Things just aren’t going my way today.” That’s what it must have felt like for the Warriors Friday night in Florence as the Florence Christian School Eagles defeated the Warriors 34-0 in a non-region match up.

Being outnumbered almost three players to one did not help the Warriors’ odds, and 13 penalties for 125 yards made matters all the worse. I have been on a lot of sidelines and I would describe the Warrior coaches as one of the most intense. There would probably be money in a Rolaid concession stand on the sideline.

No matter how costly the mistake a player makes, the coach that is in charge of that player takes him aside and explains where he was wrong. If he is having difficulty with an opposing player then he is instructed in how to deal with the situation. The coach always tells him that he has faith in him as a player and that he will overcome and succeed. He is never returned to the game feeling like a loser.

The scoring plays for the Eagles began on a 13-yard pass from quarterback Adam Hill to Hunter Eason with 10:14 left in the first quarter. The kick was blocked, leaving the Eagles up 6-0. With 8:47 left in the second quarter, a 60-yard run by the Eagle tailback Alex James, followed by James running in the conversion, put the Eagles out front 14-0.

Gordon Washington got the third score of the first half on a 72-yard run with 3:39 left. The kick was blocked leaving the Eagles on top 20-0. With 5 seconds left in the half, Eagle quarterback Adam Hill hit Alex James with a 15-yard pass for a touchdown. Chris White booted the extra point to put the Eagles up 27-0 at the half.

Hill connected with James again for the game’s final touchdown on a 43-yard strike. White’s kick made the final score Eagles 34, Warriors 0.

The Eagles did not attempt to run up the score in the fourth quarter and allowed for both teams to play reserves and start players at new positions.

On offense for the Warriors, Kelvin Stackhouse had 117 yards on 23 carries; Will Brown had 25 yards on four carries with 31 yards passing and caught a pass for 35 yards; Jim Carr passed for 51 yards; and Ellison Rourke, Mark Minges, and Anthony Williams caught passes for plus yardage.

On defense, Luke Price Had 10 tackles, three assists; Ben Boykin had eight tackles, three assists; Mathew Price had four tackles, four assists; Mark Minges, Michael Minges, and Jake Boykin each had three tackles with several assists; Heath Frietas, Ellison Rourke, and Samuel Brown each had two tackles with two assists; Jim Carr, Anthony Williams, Bradley Patterson, and David Williams added a tackle with one or more assists each; and Dallas Feeko, Douglas Bullock and Hunter Tyner added two or more tackle assists.

The Warriors will play Williamsburg Academy of Kingstree on Friday in Dillon at Warrior Stadium with game time set for 7:30 p.m. The Stallions are 2-0 headed into the matchup, while the Warriors are now 1-2.
