A “Hands Across The Border” drunken driving enforcement event was held Monday night with both South Carolina and North Carolina law enforcement participating.

This is part of the Sober or Slammer campaign which runs through Labor Day.
The purpose is to get drunken drivers off the road and keep the roads safe like they do every day, said State Trooper Jo Nell, and to fellowship, which they don’t get to do every day.
There have been 86 less fatalities on the roads than there were last year at this time, according to Greg Griggs of the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
After a meal and press event was held at the City of Dillon Wellness Center, a checkpoint was held near the state line.
