Betty Sue Jones Gibbons, affectionately known to many as “Susu”, age 82, died on June 27, 2013 at home in Dillon, SC after a valiant battle with cancer.
Mrs. Gibbons was born in Conway, SC on April 1, 1931, the daughter of Jesse Walker and Sue Marsh Jones.  She attended Columbia College and USC.  She married Harry Wadsworth Gibbons on October 11, 1953.  She had been a resident of Dillon since 1954 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, Circle leader, Youth Advisor, as well as a choir member for 33 years.  She had also served on the church’s building and grounds committee since 1986.
She was also involved in the Dillon community as a member of the Glove and Trowel Garden Club for 58 years, becoming a SC life gardener and life member of the South Atlantic Region.  She also served on the committee responsible for establishing the Dillon Theater.  She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, Cub Scout leader, member of the Hospital Auxiliary and Junior Charity League.  She also served on the Executive Board for Dillon Revitalization and was a member of the Tree Committee for The City of Dillon.
She always considered being a wife and mother her career. Her hospitality and zest for life was fully appreciated by all of her family and friends.  She is survived by her daughters Susan Dew (Hartwell) of Atlanta, GA, Ellen D’Andrea (John) of Peachtree City, GA, Joan Brown (Don) of Florence, SC and son Stan Gibbons of Greensboro, NC. Also surviving Mrs. Gibbons are her grandchildren Elizabeth Cassata (Marc), Charles Dew (Lindsay), James D’Andrea (Anna), Anna D’Andrea, Benjamin Brown and Charlotte Brown, a great grandson, Jones Dew, a sister- in-Law, Marian Steinburgh, nephew Joey Jones and nieces JoAnn Smith and Kim Sherman. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Joe Jones of Conway, SC.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dillon, SC with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Kannaday Funeral Home. The family received friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the home.
