Alan Rodriguez, an eighth-grader at Dillon Middle School, was recently honored as the school’s Reader of the Year for 2012-2013.  This award is given annually to one student.  Criteria used in selecting the winner include:
Student is an active participant in the many aspects of the school’s reading initiative, such as the Reading Counts! program,  the summer reading program, the South Carolina Junior Book Awards program, and the Lunch Bunch Book Club.
· Student demonstrates characteristics of a lifelong reader and learner.
·  Student is recommended for the award by his team teachers.
In giving this award, the school hopes to recognize the importance of reading and to encourage students to become lifelong readers and learners.  Alan was presented an engraved plaque and $100. His name has also been added to a plaque which will be on permanent display in the Dillon Middle School Media Center.
Five other DMS students were honored as Reader of the Year Honor Roll students.  Jordan Monahan, Kezia Dentley, Skyler McCoy, Eleazar Cruz, and Raymond Hodge all will have their names on a framed certificate which will remain on permanent display in the Dillon Middle School Media Center.
