In 2007 the Station Nine (Oak Grove) Fire Department was given a 1978 GMC 1000 Gallon Pumper by Belvidere & Chappell Hill Fire Department in Belvidere, North Carolina.
They put this truck in service and named it 942. They have used it for five years.
Recently, it was decided to retire 942 from active firefighting because of several reasons; it will not pass a pump test and will only obtain a speed of 50 MPH. Both of these reasons are safety issues.
The intention is to use this truck at Station Nine’s training center so that they don’t have to take a first-out truck out of service during training. It will no longer be used at a true Emergency Scene because of it being unsafe to do so. National Fire Protection Association Standard 1911 states that any truck that is unsafe should be retired
“I would like to thank the Belvidere & Chappell Hill Fire Department for donating this truck to us; we succeed in life and business because other people want us to,” said Station Nine Chief Larry Cox. “Our remaining equipment will not be affected,” Cox said.
They have at the station the following trucks to serve the public:
—941 is a 1996 Chevrolet used as a First Responder Truck. (17 years old)
—943 is a 1973 White 1000 GPM Pumper it is our first out truck. (40 years old)
—944 is a 1986 Chevrolet used as a Water Tanker. (27 years old)
—945 is a 2008 International 1250 GPM Pumper/Tanker. (5 years old)
—946 is a 1998 Ford Brush Truck. (15 years old)
“At Station Nine we strive to provide the best fire protection we can. Our members are well trained and are eager to help any person in need,” Cox said.
