Students from across the state graduated from the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) Summer Programs. Students attended programs based on their age and art discipline.
Students are chosen to attend for one art area after an application and audition process that began Fall 2011. The non-traditional curriculum incorporates studio work, self-directed studies, performances, field trips, lectures and presentations by faculty and guest artists.
Daijour Huggins-Samuel attended the Discovery 2012 program for Music, playing clarinet, and currently attends J. V. Martin Junior High School Summer Discovery is a two-week program for rising ninth graders interested in Creative Writing, Drama, Music or Visual Arts. While they work intensely in their art area, students are exposed to the other art areas with opportunities to attend performances and guest lectures. Students graduated on July 21, 2012. Prospective students may apply in the 8th grade.
Summer Academy is a two-week program for rising tenth graders desiring intensive study in Creative Writing, Drama, Music or Visual Arts. The unique curriculum incorporates studio work, self-directed studies, performances, field trips, lectures and presentations by faculty and guest artists. Students graduated on July 21, 2012. Prospective students may apply in the 9th grade.
Summer Dance is a five-week program offering intensive training in ballet and modern dance. Students graduated on July 21, 2012.
Prospective students may apply during their 6th-11th grade years.
(Applicants must be 12 years of age by June 1 of the year they attend).
For those students interested in attending programs for Summer 2013 or the residential high school 2013-14 school year, applications will be available via www.scgsah.org by September 2012.
