John Patrick Rowell of Latta was sentenced on drug charges recently in General Sessions Court.
Rowell was sentenced to the following:
-Possession with intent to distribute marijuana-Five years suspended to three years service, two years probation, substance abuse counseling, random drug and alcohol testing.
-Possession with intent to distribute marijuana-Five years suspended to three years service, two years probation, substance abuse counseling, random drug and alcohol testing.
-Possession with intent to distribute oxycodone-Five years suspended to three years service, two years probation, substance abuse counseling, random drug and alcohol testing.
In April, a drug raid was held at a residence on Highway 301 in the town limits of Latta in the school zone. The Latta Police Department had received several complaints about this residence, which resulted in an investigation into the matter. The Latta Police Department, the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office and SLED worked together on the case. Rowell was arrested on the scene. The Latta Police Department reported that money, guns including a sawed off shotgun and rifle, and drugs including marijuana, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and soma-carisoprodol were seized and drug paraphernalia including smoking pipes, bags, and scales were also discovered.
