The Boston Red Sox announced on Friday that they had signed 11 of their draft picks, including Dillon’s Jamie Callahan.
Right-hander Callahan was the round two pick for the Red Sox. The pool amount for his pick was slotted at $565,000, though it’s likely he signed for more. The amount of his signing bonus was not announced.
Callahan was set to begin his professional baseball career on Monday with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox of Fort Myers, Florida. They were scheduled to take on the GCL Tampa Bay Rays at noon to kick off the GCL season for both teams.
In addition to Callahan, The Red Sox signed compensation round pick Pat Light, also a right-handed pitcher, from Monmouth University. Light received a $1 million signing bonus from Boston, nearly $400,000 less than the slotted value.
They also took high school player Ty Buttrey, a right-handed pitcher from Providence High School, Boston’s fourth round pick.
Their fifth round pick, Mike Aguilera, another right-handed pitcher, of Binghamton University, also signed. The college senior set school records with 23 wins, 298 1/3 innings, 50 starts, and 13 complete games in his collegiate career.
Shaq Thompson, a center-fielder from Grant High in California, also signed with the Red Sox, and will play professionally in the spring while playing college football fro the University of Washington in the fall.
The other players who signed included right-hander Kyle Kraus, first baseman Nathan Minnich, infielder Mike Miller, left-handed pitcher Dylan Chavez, first baseman Jake Davies, and catcher Miguel Rodriguez.
