Latta’s Lady Vikings pulled out a 5-3 win over Green Sea-Floyds at home on Monday night, the first time the Vikings have overcome the Trojans all season.

Latta started the game strong with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and added on in the bottom of the third to lead 4-0. The Lady Trojans rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth to trail Latta 4-3. The Lady Vikings got their final run in the bottom of the inning and both teams held each other off through the rest of the game for the final score of 5-3.

Tori Grimsley picked up the win for Latta, going four innings and allowing six hits, three runs, one earned run, and one walk with one out. Anna Rogers got the save with three innings pitched for one walk and four outs. Hope Elliott took the loss for Green Sea, pitching six innings for eight hits, five runs, four earned runs, and three outs.

Macy Hyatt went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Latta at bat, with Tori Grimsley going 2-for-4; Chelsea Welty going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs; and Raven Baxley going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Latta had eight hits and two errors in the win.

Natalie Floyd led Green Sea-Floyds at bat, going 2-for-3. The Trojans had six hits and one error in the loss.

Latta improved to 18-4 overall while Green Sea-Floyds slipped to 17-3.

The Lady Vikings advance directly to the Lower State Championship, which they will host on Friday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m. They will face the winner of Wednesday night’s matchup between East Clarendon and Green Sea-Floyds.

Meanwhile, in the Upper State, defending champs Abbeville have advanced to the Upper State championship and will face either Landrum or Chesterfield on Friday for the title. Abbeville has a 29-1 record so far this season.
