Despite a tumultuous season marked with injuries and suspensions, Dillon High School’s Wildcats are heading to the close of the season with a 6-9 record overall record and a 4-6 in Region 8-2A.

The Wildcats added a 7-1 win over Mullins on Tuesday, April 10, with Miguel Trejo scored four goals. Josh Loftus, Joey Loftus, and Jaerese Bethea each scored one goal for Dillon in the win.

On Friday, April 13, Dillon fell to Marion 2-1 with Miguel Trejo scoring Dillon’s only goal.

On Tuesday, April 17, the Wildcats added another win, defeating Aynor 7-2. Amr Dawad scored three goals for Dillon, with Connor Bailey, Tyreek Hayes, Rakee Waters, and Miguel Trejo each adding one.

On Wednesday, Dillon fell to Loris 6-2. Connor Bailey and Miguel Trejo each scored a goal in the loss. And on Friday, the Waccamaw Warriors swept the Wildcats 7-0.

After the suspension of first year coach Vontray Sellers, assistant coach Jason Owens took over coaching duties with help from coach kelvin Roller. Owens has been a city recreation coach for four years before coaching at Dillon.

“We had an up and down year from the start with injuries, red card suspensions, and school suspensions,” Owens said. “We had only 11 players tonight versus one of the top teams in the state.

“But the future is very bright with talent coming up through the recreation system here that has been in place now for a few good years,” he added, “and a flock of talent is incoming in the next three to five years.”

For now, the Wildcats will close the regular season on Wednesday night at Cheraw High School in a non-league bout. State playoffs are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 8.
