The Latta Vikings took down the Carvers Bay Bears 12-2 in five innings in Hemingway on Tuesday with Donell Stanley hitting a homer with four RBIs and John Kever Love striking out eight on the mound.
The Vikings scored four runs out of the gate and added four more in the second to lead 8-2, with Carvers Bay scoring their only two runs in the bottom of the first. Latta added one run in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth to end the game at 12-2 after five innings.
Donell Stanley went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs and John Kever Love went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Vikings at bat. Latta had 12 hits and two errors in the game.
On the mound, Love pitched all five innings, striking out eight and allowing only two hits, two runs, and one earned run.
Baxley took the loss for Carvers Bay, pitching three innings and allowing nine runs, eight hits, six earned runs, and two walks, striking out three.
The Vikings now own a 5-1 overall record and an undefeated 3-0 record in Region 8A.
