Friday, February 17, was my 68th birthday, and I told my golfing friends that I hoped I could shoot my age of 68.
I didn’t do that, but I did have my fourth hole-in-one of my golfing life. I was playing with Teddy Morrison, A.Z. Britt, and Matt Christenburg.
Hole-in-ones are not common, especially on one’s birthday. I was playing with an early birthday gift, a new set of clubs.
I hit my first ace in 1984 at Twin Lakes Country Club, hole #13, 180 yards, using a three iron.
My second was at hole #8, 120 yards, in 1999 using a nine iron.
The third was at Fairmont Golf Course on February 21, 2011, at hole #8, 125 yards, using a pitching wedge.
The fourth was at Twin Lakes on Friday, at hole #8, 140 yards, with a seven iron.
Notice anything strange here? There were three aces on holes #8! The last one came on my 68th birthday…so happy birthday to me!
