During the months of October and November, the Mount Calvary Baptist Church RA and GA groups encouraged church members to bring non-perishable food items. On November 23, the RA and GA groups along with the Mission Friends delivered the food items to our local Helping Hands ministry. The children were given a tour of the building and they learned how things run at Helping Hands. Many of the children had no idea how many people, especially senior adults, are unable to get enough food for their family and they learned how Helping Hands ministers to each family that needs assistance. Even the leaders who attended the tour were not aware that families are not able to afford items like toothpaste, toothbrushes and toilet paper and that these items can not be bought with food stamps. Helping Hands not only distributes food, but other necessary items like the ones just listed. Several church members and many of the children were not even aware that
Helping Hands existed when the mission groups began their project. It is a wonderful organization that Dillon has in its community. I hope the people of Dillon County will work hard to keep this ministry in place. (Contributed)
