Committee of Concerned Citizens eighth week PTI (Pre Trial Intervention) meeting was held on Monday, December 12, 2011, at 7:00 pm at the Riverdale Community Center.
The purpose of this meeting is to sponsor a program by the Solicitor’s office called PTI, which consists of “First Time Offenders” who have been charged with non-violent crimes. This is an eight weeks program that consists of various speakers who share their ideas. In these sessions, there is a question and answer session.
The meeting was opened by Rev. Michael Battle, Chaplain, with prayer. Rev. Battle introduced the speakers.
Rev. Michael Battle gave all the participants a brochure on, “Domestic Violence”. He discussed the brochure in great detail. He talked about the awareness of domestic violence and encouraged them to take heed to the comments. He also told the participants that they can control themselves. Don’t let alcohol and drugs control you. In closing, Rev. Battle told the participants to be role models for their children as well as their peers.
Betty Legette, Manning Baptist Church, talked about “Faith”.
She stated that faith got her here. She stated that she is grateful that someone took the time to care and help her. She told the participants that what ever reason they are here just keep faith and complete this program. This is your second chance, utilize it. In closing, Mrs. Legette state that she thanks God for His help because without Him, she could not have completed her drug treatment program. Take the time to think twice.
Larry Abraham, Chief Deputy, told the participants to take advantage of this opportunity.
Take advantage of what the speakers are saying. Hang out with positive people. Hanging out with negative people will lead you to trouble.
He encouraged the participants to complete this program.
By doing this will clear your record and get you a job. He also requested the participants to individually talk about themselves for one minute, which they did.
In closing, Mr. Abraham congratulated them and told them that this was a learning experience.
