The Latta Vikings earned their first win of the season on Tuesday as they defeated the Hemingway Tigers 59-49.
Latta started things off with a slight 10-8 lead in the first but were behind by the half as Hemingway outscored Latta 18-11. The Vikings came out of the break strong to add 19 points to the Tigers 9 in the third to carry a 40-35 lead into the fourth. Latta secured the win there by outscoring Hemingway 19-14 for the final score of 59-49.
Rajit McFadden led Latta with 14 points, with Donell Stanley adding 13. D.J. Legette and Kenche Page each contributed 12 points in the win. Tyrell Sabb earned six, and Tysean Burgess scored two.
Hemingway was led by Dominique Pyatt and DeMetris Hampton who each scored 13. Azrial Moye scored 7, Darmond Player earned six, and J.D. Williams and Dominic Scott each scored four. Michael Pushia added two and LaMichael Pushia scored one.
Latta’s overall record improves to 1-4 and the win gives them a 1-0 record in Region 8-A.
The Vikings are done for the rest of the year, but will return to action on Tuesday, January 3, when they’ll host Dillon in a non-region match beginning at 6:00 p.m.
On Friday, January 6, the Vikings are scheduled to travel to Lake View to take on the Wild Gators in their second region match of the season. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
