James Council Elkins, 84, died Thursday, November 17, 2011, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to service.
Born in Dillon County, May 11, 1927, he was the son of the late James Council Elkins and Govie Elizabeth Ivey Elkins. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, was a member of the Dillon Church of God where he was a former church council member, and was retired from Dixiana Mills. He was married to the late Eva Wilkes Elkins for 63 years.
Survivors include his children, Diana (Jack) Barfield of Lake View and James Neil (Polly) Elkins of Dillon; sister, Bernice Elkins Cook of Dillon.
Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by his sisters, Lola Bell Elkins Turner of Dillon and Flora Kate Elkins Gray of Dillon.
