Dothan’s Baptist Church services were anything but normal this past Sunday, June 19th.
It was Dothan’s 1st Annual Biker Sunday. Just imagine 90% of the congregation was decked out head-to-toe in biker gear – even the pastor, Rev. Johnny Corbett was wearing jeans.
Many leather vests had patches that said “Pee Dee Christian Fellowship Bikers”. There were many other Christian “patches” in the congregation declaring their affiliation with Jesus.
As the bikers arrived, members welcomed them to a day of worship, music, and a barbecue chicken dinner. Bikers were from Dillon County, Sumter, Myrtle Beach, West Virginia, and as far away as Tennessee. Pastor Johnny Corbett said the bikers didn’t just show up for the event, they were in-charge of Sunday’s Service – and what a worship service we had!
But as the worship service began, it was obvious that Sunday’s Service was a day to celebrate as one Body of Christ.
Pastor Johnny called all Dads to the front of the sanctuary to be recognized on Father’s Day and given a gift. Dothan’s drama team performed.
Music was provided by Biker Teddy Bear who sang a lot of our old favorite hymns and Biker Diane who sang songs written by Eddie B. Sasquatch, who gave his testimony on how the Lord had changed his life.
The service concluded with the best part of all, a gentleman came forward and gave his heart to the Lord. Biker Sunday reminds us all that the church is not made up of a sanctuary and a fellowship hall. The Church is the Body of Christ. Pastor Johnny repeated what he is always saying, “It’s time for us to get up off our 18” of lumber (our pew seats) and go outside the walls of our buildings and reach out to our community.”
