Mrs. Allene Coates Caulder passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Fernandina Beach, Florida, May 8, 2011, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Caulder was born in Latta, SC, the daughter of the late James Linson and Lillie Coates. She attended Clemson University and came back to Latta and in 1939 wed Elliott Caulder, moved to Dillon,SC, and in 1949 moved to Wilmington,NC. They were happily married for 41 years and she spent some of her happiest days in Wilmington. Mrs. Caulder was an accomplished pianist, organist, and piano teacher. She found joy through music and delighted in teaching others to play the piano, which was one of the great loves of her life. She was organist for Gibson Avenue Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC for forty years. Mrs. Caulder also enjoyed playing the piano and organ at Union Baptist Church and Latta Baptist Church during worship services for many years. She was a member of Latta Baptist Church, the Harriett Dew Sunday
School Class and the Golden Jubileers of Latta Baptist Church and the VIP’s at Union Baptist Church. Mrs. Caulder was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherill (Bill) Ballard of Fernandina Beach, Florida, her granddaughter Cheryl Ann (Dan) Phelps, her great granddaughter, Chandler, all of Hopkins, SC. She was predeceased by her husband, Elliott, her son, James “Duke”, two brothers, and four sisters.
Visitation wil be Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Latta Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2011, at Union Baptist Church in Marion,SC, at 11:00 A.M., with graveside services and burial at 4:00 P.M. in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington, NC. Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta is assisting the family.
