Latta’s Lady Vikings were back to form on Tuesday against Johnsonville as they went 6-2 over the Lady Flashes.
The Flashes took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning, and added their second run in the fourth. But Latta got fired up in the fourth, getting four runs to take the lead and adding two more in the fifth to secure the win.
Morgan Mason was the wining pitcher, going seven innings and allowing only six hits, two runs, and one earned run. Mason struck out six.
The losing pitcher was Ashley Hanna, pitching seven innings and allowing eight hits, six runs, and four earned runs, striking out one.
Latta’s leading hitters were Dallas Sweat, 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs, and Raven Baxley, 1-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Allison Moody went 2-for-4 with two runs; Anna Benton Love went 1-for-3 with an RBI; Chelsea Welty went 1-for-3 with an RBI; Paige Lovett went 1-for-3; Andrea Gilbert went 1-for-2; and Charise Braddy scored one run.
Latta’s record improves to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in Region 8-A. The Lady Vikings are second in the region, with Johnsonville in third with a 6-8, 4-2 record.
In the latest South Carolina softball coaches poll, Latta was ranked sixth in the state, with Johnsonville ranked tenth. Lake View continued to be ranked number one in Class A.
Latta will travel to Lamar tonight for a non-region game at 6:00 p.m. They’ll be back at home to host Carvers Bay next Tuesday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m.
