The Dillon County Educators-Retired met on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the B&C Steakhouse in Dillon.
President June Arnette welcomed the group and returned thanks for the meal.
Mrs. Betty Bridgers was introduced as the speaker of the day. Mrs. Bridgers is a retired classroom teacher and served as the former local coordinator of the Robeson County Public School’s Special Olympics. She has had a vast amount of experience and training in working with children with special needs and is a strong advocate of the various programs available. One of her favorites is the “Fans in the Stands.” She encourages all to support these events. Let these young participants know that you are there for them. The group was very impressed with the joy and enthusiasm she expressed for special needs.
Mrs. Arnette informed the retired teachers of several important dates of meetings in Columbia concerning topics of interest to retirees.
Mrs. Dale Hardaway gave the treasurer’s report, and the secretary read the minutes of the December meeting. Mrs. Arnette appointed Mrs. Sylvia Griffin, Mrs. Mary Alice Lytch, and Mrs. Mattie Strickland to secure officers by the next meeting in May. Mrs. Arnette has served well as President for several terms. She feels that it is time for change.
After singing a closing hymn, “O How I Love Jesus,” the meeting was adjourned.
