Masie Locklear Barfield, 94, wife of the late Ernest Barfield, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at the McLeod Medical Center Hospice House in Dillon.
She was born on July 24, 1916 in Little Rock. She was the daughter of the late John and Lizzie Chavis Locklear. Ms. Barfield was a member of Leland Grove Freewill Baptist Church and was the oldest member of the Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, and working in her garden.
Survivors include children, Ernest Barfield, Jr. of Little Rock, Vanessa Barfield McIntyre (Jay) of Hamer and daughter-in-law, Gertrude Chavis Locklear of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Betty Joyce Hunt (James) of Little Rock, Dr. James McIntyre, Jr. (Kelly) of Murrells Inlet, and Nikki McIntyre Hefner (Matthew) of Monroe, NC; two sisters, Betty M. Locklear of Little Rock and Blondell Locklear of Hamer; six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Locklear.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20th, in the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tracy Locklear officiating. Burial will be at Leland Grove Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 19th, at Cooper Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Dr. James McIntyre, Jr, Matthew Hefner, Wayne Hunt, Frank Hunt, Martin Alvarez, and James E. Deal.
