The owners of Bartell Funeral Home, LLC express their appreciation, love and support for Dillon County by awarding $4,000 in scholarships. The funeral home owners, Dr. Flossie Bartell, Rev. Gypsie Murdaugh, Esquire and Dr. Christi Bartell have continued the founder, Mr. Samuel Bartell’s legacy of supporting the higher education of Dillon County graduates for more than 15 years.
The $1,000.00 Samuel and Flossie Bartell Scholarship, sponsored by Bartell Funeral Home, LLC and The Bartell Foundation, was established to honor the perseverance, dedication and hard work of two outstanding citizens in the Dillon Community. At the death of Mr. Samuel Bartell on October 31, 2008, it also became a memorial to his memory and contributions. In honor of the work of Samuel and Flossie Bartell, this scholarship is for students who plan to seek a career in education or entrepreneurship in any type of business. The 2023 recipient is Cre’Asia Taylor. Cre’Asia is a graduate of Dillon High School and plans to attend Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC in the Fall.
Dr. Christi Bartell, a 1994 graduate of Dillon High School awards three $1,000.00 scholarships to deserving students in Dillon County. She is a 2002 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and specializes in pediatric medicine. Each scholarship goes to a graduating senior who will attend an institution of higher learning in the Fall of 2023 and whose studies will be focused in one of the STEM areas of study (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The 2023 recipients are: Rachel Sims and Paris Nelson, both graduates of Dillon High School. Rachel plans to attend Francis Marion University in Florence, SC in the Fall and Paris plans to attend Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC in the Fall. The third recipient is Joy Benjamin a graduate of Lake View High School and she plans to attend the University in Columbia, South Carolina SC in the Fall.
