Nancy Miller Dickens, 74, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 2, 2023 after an illness. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Lake View at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery, directed by Cooke Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00-4:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
Born in Marion County, June 26, 1948, Nancy was the daughter of Ralph “Buddy” and Evelyn Barfield Miller. She was a member of Fairmont First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher as well as in the church choir. Nancy received her BS degree and Masters degree from Pembroke State University. She was National Board Certified and dedicated 26 years of her life to teaching elementary education and coaching literacy. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially with her 9 grandchildren.
Surviving Nancy are her sons, Michael Dickens (Susan) and Alan Dickens (Kristen); daughter, Lori Ford (Carl); brother, David Miller (Mary Carol); sisters, Debbie Capps (Jerry), Sandy Edwards, Sherry Hinson (Butch), Rosemary Daniels (Kenny), and Susan Herring; 9 grandchildren.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Lofton “Dickie” Dickens III; her parents, Ralph and Evelyn Miller; her brothers, Richard “Bird Dog” Miller, James “Clinker” Miller, and Ralph Wayne Miller; and a granddaughter, Lauren Chandler Dickens.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mrs. Shannon Carter and Mrs. Angela Harps, and the other team members of Agape Hospice for the wonderful care given to Nancy during her illness.
