Services for Theo Lyfon Lane will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Ebenezer Southern Methodist Church with burial in Old Ebenezer Church Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held following the service at Ebenezer Southern Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 1048 Dudley Rd., Latta.
Mr. Lane, 96, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at his residence.
Born in Marion County, SC, June 9, 1925, he was the son of the late Lee Campbell Lane and Clara Belle Rogers Lane. A career educator, he was a graduate of Latta High School and the University of South Carolina. He was the retired Superintendent of Education at Latta School District 3, Chesterfield County Schools, and Spartanburg County District 4 before becoming Chair of the State Board of Education. He was a member of Latta United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Survivors include his wife of sixteen years, Lou Chapman-Lane of Dillon; sons, Theo Lane, Jr. of Greenwood, SC, James Campbell Lane (Justin Dagit) of Columbia, SC, and Robert Stubbs Lane of Greenwood, SC; step-children, Belinda Chapman Rhodes (Dusty) of Prosperity, SC, Patty Chapman Barksdale (David) of Brooks, GA, Lisa Chapman Lara of Dillon, and Paulette Chapman Rogers (Michael) of Dillon; grandchildren, Rixon Lane (Samantha) of Richmond, KY, and Colby Lane of Woodruff, SC; brother, Bobby C. Lane of Temperance Hill; sister, Carolyn W of Marion; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his first wife, Becky Stubbs Lane.
