The Dillon Wildcats varsity basketball team edged the visiting Loris Lions 53-50 in Dillon on Friday, January 28.
Dillon was down by 5 points after the first quarter of play, 20-15. At halftime, Dillon had cut the lead to 2 points, 28-26. Dillon outscored Loris 16-7 in the third quarter to take a 7-point lead, 42-35.
Loris committed 7 fouls in the first half and 6 fouls in the second half while Dillon committed 7 fouls in the first half and 4 in the second half.
Dillon’s DeMarco Bethea led all scorers with 25 points with eleven 2-point baskets and 4 free throws. Charles Brayboy added 6 points on three 2-point baskets, Zay Bethea also connected for 6 points with two 2-point baskets and 2 free throws as did Zavion Clark. Amari Dingle and Tyler Pinkney each placed 4 points on the scoreboard with two 2-point baskets. Jamel Odom sank a 2-point basket.
Loris’ Murry Legette led his team with 17 points. He connected on five 3-point baskets and a 2-point basket. CJ Cox placed 9 points on the scoreboard with two 2-point baskets and 5 free throws while La’Ontray Knox added 8 points with three 2-point baskets and 2 free throws. JaShawn Johnson sank three 2-point baskets for 6 points. Duke Bellamy sank a 3-point basket, and TJ Hemingway picked up 3 points on the charity line. Jackson Graham connected for a 2-point basket.
