Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators improved their overall record to 8-1 this week, sweeping a double header on Tuesday and getting a 12-4 win over Green Sea-Floyds Friday.
The Gators hosted the Hemingway Tigers for a double header on March 8. Five innings were scheduled, but the Lady Wild Gators shut out the Tigers 15-0 within three innings in both games.
In game one, the Lady Wild Gators scored seven runs in the first inning, adding six in the second and two in the third to end the game on the mercy rule.
Avonlea Cooke got the win, pitching two innings and allowing no hits with six strike outs and one walk. Morgan Herlong pitched one inning and had three strikeouts, while freshman Kaitlyn Britt handled the defensive catching duties.
Chessie Miller went 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI to lead Lake View at the plate. Sierra Sports, Morgan Wethington, and Brittany Floyd each went 1-for-2. Sports had two runs and five RBIs. Wethington had three RBIs and Floyd had a single RBI.
In game two, Lake View scored 12 runs in the first inning with a two-run double to left from Ashley Rogers serving as a highlight of the game. Once again, the mercy rule was invoked to give Lake View the 15-0 win.
Cooke once again got the win, pitching one inning and striking out three players, allowing only one ball and one hit. Kayla Sanderson and Sierra Sports each pitched hitless innings, with Sanderson striking out all three batters she faced.
This time the sophomores led the offense as Sanderson went 2-for-3 with one run and three RBIs, Chelsea Spivey went 1-for-2 with one run and two RBIs, and K.D. Cox went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
Freshmen Kayce Wong went 1-for-2 with one run and three RBIs, Morgan Herlong got three runs and a RBI, and Pam Butler went 0-for-1 with one run and a RBI. Eighth-grader Ashley Rogers went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and seventh-grader Marissa Tyndall went 0-for-1 with two runs scored.
The Lake View girls were scheduled to face Green Sea-Floyds on Thursday, but weather forced a postponement until Friday night. But the delay wasn’t enough to slow down Lake View’s momentum as they defeated the Trojans 12-4.
Avonlea Cooke was the winning pitcher for Lake View, pitching the complete game but giving up only five hits and four runs. She struck out 10 Trojans and walked only three.
Cooke also led at bat, going 2-for-5 with 4 RBIs and two runs. Chessie Miller went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs. Sierra Sports went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Chelsea Spivey went 2-for-4, Kayla Sanderson went 3-for-4, and Morgan Herlong went 2-for-4. All three got an RBI, and Sanderson made two runs.
Hope Elliott was the losing pitcher for GSF, pitching in two innings for six hits, five runs, four earned runs, and two walks. She struck out two.
Lake View’s overall record improves to 8-1 while their Region 8A record remains undefeated at 3-0.
