Johnsie Coley McKenzie, 90, passed away at her home in Dillon on Saturday, August 14, 2021 surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Born May 18, 1931 in Robeson County, NC to Glendon Lee Coley and Anna Bell Coley, she was raised by her beloved aunt and uncle, Abby and Pat Graham, after her mother’s untimely death when she was 3 years old.
Johnsie worked several years at Selma Hosiery before it closed, and then joined her husband, Legrand McKenzie as owner-operators of Granny’s One Stop, in Dillon. While Johnsie did most of the cooking at Granny’s, she enjoyed nothing more than entertaining and talking with her many customers and friends over her 40 plus years in the business.
Johnsie is survived by her husband of 46 years, Edward Legrand McKenzie; and 4 children: Mary Alice Reaves, Patricia Ann Bohachic (Jimmy), Ruby Lee Brumble, and E. Leary McKenzie (Katie), all of Dillon. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Steven Reaves (Jane), Nickie Williams, Jimmy Brumble, Jr. (Debbie), Michael Terrence Brumble, Robert Charles Ray (Sharon), James M. Bohachic (Mary), Johnsie Elizabeth Bohachic, John Coley Bohachic (Candace), and Madison McKenzie. Johnsie was blessed with 25 great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren.
