Lady Vikings Defeat Jaguars
The Latta Lady Vikings defeated the Kingstree Jaguars 13-0 in the first game of the double header and 11-0 in the second game of the double header played in Latta on Tuesday, March 23.
Latta’s Rylyn Marsh picked up the win in the first game. She pitched 3 innings and allowed 1 hit and walked no one.
Destiny Mosley was charged with the loss. She pitched 2 innings and allowed 9 hits and walked 6.
Kingstree committed 2 errors in the game. Latta did not commit an error.
Destiny Mosley garnered a single for Kingstree in the first game.
Latta’s Jena Stutler had a triple, a double and 4 rbi in her 3 at-bats. Abigail Cooper had a double and 2 rbi in her 1 at-bat. Maddie Berry had a double, a single, and a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Ragan Bethea had a double and a rbi in her 1 at-bat. Rylyn Marsh had a single and a rbi in her 1 at-bat. Averi Lovell had a triple in her 1 at-bat. Blake Hatchell had a single in her 2 at-bats.
In the second game of the evening, Latta garnered 10 hits and scored 11 runs.

The Jaguars’ Harmony Mosley and Kailey Mcknight each garnered a single in the game.

Abigail Cooper had a double and a rbi in her 2 at-bats. Emily Smith had a single and a rbi in her 1 at-bat. Jayla Jackson had 2 singles. Rylyn Mash had a rbi.
Kingstree committed 2 errors in the game, and Latta did not commit an error.
Lady Warriors Come Up Short
Lady Warriors came up short 8-6 in varsity softball action played in Dillon on Tuesday, March 23.
The visiting Lady Dragons placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Dillon Christian School answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 1 run.
Each team scored 3 runs in the second inning in what was proving to be an evenly matched game.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Warriors connected for 3 runs to take a 6-5 lead. However, Marlboro Academy regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning in this see-saw scoring event.
The Lady Dragon added a run in the top of the sixth inning and held Dillon scoreless for the last 2 innings to take the win.
Marlboro Academy’s Makayla Parks pitched the entire 7 innings and allowed 6 runs of which 3 were earned, 10 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6.
Savannah Sherman was tagged with the loss. She also pitched the entire 7 innings. She allowed 10 hits, 8 runs of which 5 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 5.
Marlboro Academy’s Mattie Liles was perfect at the plate with 4 hits and 3 rbi in 4 at-bats. Madison Carriker connected for a triple, a single, and a ri in 3 at-bats. Parks was also perfect at the plate with a hit and 2 rbi in 1 at-bat. Madison Dixon had a triple and a rbi in 4 at-bats. Ava Edmondson had a double and a rbi in 4 at-bats. Anna Smith added a hit in 4 at-bats.
Dillon Christian School will host Pee Dee Academy on Friday, March 26.

Two Locals Standing Out At University of Charleston In West Virginia
The University of Charleston in West Virginia defeated Glenville State 45-0 on Saturday, March 20, at the University of Charleston in West Virginia Stadium.
Tyreik McAllister, former Latta High School football standout,veteran receiver led the University of Charleston in West Virginia with 2 scores and a game-high 109 yards.
Glenville State was unable to score on the opening drive, and the Golden Eagles took over. The Golden Eagles aided by a series of runs including 2 by McAllister were stopped on the 12-yard line where a filed goal was made by Tim McCutchen to get the Golden Eagles onto the scoreboard.
With a 20-0 lead with 10:38 remaining in the second quarter, McAllister ran for a 45-yard touchdown.
In the third quarter, McAllister scampered for a 27-yard touchdown.
The Golden Eagles will host UNC Pembroke with a noon kick-off.
The University of Charleston West Virginia defeated Glenville State 45-0 on Saturday, March 20, at the University of Charleston West Virginia Stadium.
Justin Hall, former Latta High School 2017 graduate and Defensive Lineman of the Year of 2016 where he had 63 tackles and 5 sacks for the Latta Vikings, had 1 tackle, 1 sack, and 1 deflected pass in the game against Glenville State.
Hall is a 6″ 0″, 250-pound redshirt junior and wears #35 for the university.
Hall’s mother, Kimberly Fore, is very proud of his accomplishments.
