Latta High School Varsity Head Coach Virginia (Jenny) Melton, who has been coaching for 7 years and as head coach for 2 years, does not shy away from playing anyone as evidenced on Monday, March 8, when the Latta Lady Vikings hosted the South Florence Lady Bruins in Latta on a cold evening.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Latta did not play softball for the 2019-2020 season. During this time plus the year before, Latta has lost 9 players. But, don’t worry; Latta has so many talented and athletic young women who continue working in-season and out-of-season to be the best they can be.
Coach Melton returns her same coaching assistants from 2018-2019. They are Michael Medlin, Anna Rogers, and Buddy Rogers, all of whom are from Latta.
Coach Melton and her staff are attempting to fill the void of 4 infield positions and 2 outfield positions.
Coach Melton exclaimed “The expectations for this year is take each game one at at time and give 110% on and off the field. If we all work to meet and/or exceed these expectations then we will have another successful year.”
Coach Melton and her coaching staff have added new players.
Coach Melton added “Since we were unable to play last season due to COVID-19, and we had some changes in our Region, I am not sure who our toughest opponent will be.”
As the regular season is on the horizon, we all look forward to a great season of softball.
