Robert Olee Berry, 73, passed away in the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, January 27, 2011.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 30, at 2:00 PM Graveside in the Catfish Creek Baptist Church Cemetery (1495 Catfish Church Road, Latta, SC 29565). Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Saturday January 29, in Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta, SC.

Born April 3, 1937, in Asheville, NC, Bob was born the son of the late Kate Srom and Brighton Olee Berry. He graduated from Latta High School and Wofford College with a B. A. Degree. While attending Wofford College, he played baseball for the Wofford Terriers. After graduation he served as a football and baseball coach for Dillon, Clio, Aynor, and Timmonsville Schools, He also served in the South Carolina National Guard for six years. After teaching and coaching, Bob began working for the Florence Rehabilitation Center, while also working as an Umpire and Referee throughout the Pee Dee area for public and private schools. After retirement, Bob’s volunteer commitments became tireless for various organizations and individuals across the Pee Dee, some of which included the Red Wolves and American Legion Baseball.

Surviving are his brother Jimmy S. (Barbara) Berry, of Latta, SC, his sister Virginia (R. G.) Heckerman of Florida and Fayettevile, NC, Nephews, Jim Berry and Kelly Berry, two great nieces, and one great nephew. He is also survived by a very special companion, Shirley Walters. He was predeceased by a nephew, Rodge Heckerman.
