The second annual “Operation Christmas-Dillon County Cares” gathering was held on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dillon County Detention Center.
Individuals and churches were asked to donate inmate’s care packages consisting of items such as one pair of white socks, one white washcloth, one white towel, one bar of dial soap, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant, pencil, note pad, candy, cakes, etc., to give to the inmates at the detention center on Christmas.
The outpouring of the community can be seen in the pictures of some of the items collected for distribution.  Additionally, Chaplain Haywood Proctor informed the group gathered that cash had been donated and would be used locally to purchase more items for the inmates.
Several who were instrumental in organizing this were present such as Dillon County Detention Center Chaplain Haywood Proctor, Sheriff Major Hulon, Lt. Pam Johnson, Ronnie Stone, and others.
Sheriff Major Hulon stated that this year’s “operation” has grown from last year.
The sheriff also said the Haywood Proctor, Jr., has been an answer to his prayers while Proctor serves as Chaplain for the Dillon County Sheriff’s Department.  “God loves all people.  I sincerely thank everyone for participating,” he said.
Lt. Pam Johnson of the Detention Center remarked that everyone was so glad to receive packages last year.  She also thanked everyone for the many kindnesses.
Chaplain Proctor is proud that many volunteers are in every pod at the Detention Center on Sunday morning proclaiming and teaching the Word of the Lord.  He was also proud of the fact that Ronnie Stone teaches Bible study on Thursday at the Detention Center.
Chaplain Proctor thanked everyone for the contributions that each had made to this worthwhile event.
At the conclusion, tours of the detention center were given, and afterwards, refreshments were served.
