Mrs. Beatrice Butler Carmichael died peacefully in her sleep early Thursday morning, January 30, 2020.
A funeral service was held Saturday, February 1 at 2:00 at Union UMC in Dillon, with burial at Regan Family Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, January 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cooke Funeral Home of Lake View.
Born October 30, 1922, Mrs. Bea was a life-long resident of Dillon County. Born in the Bermuda Community, she was the daughter of John Raymond and Grace Stephens Butler.
During World War II, she worked for the Agriculture Department in Washington, DC. While in Washington she met her future husband, Marvin Carmichael. They were married following the war in June 1945 and made their residence on the Carmichael Family Farm in the Gaddy s Mill Community. There they raised their three children.
Ms. Bea was active in the Eastern Star, Union Methodist Church, and she served many years in the Auxiliary with McLeod Hospital in Dillon. Her greatest joy was her family and the many friendships she developed throughout her life. She was an inspiration to all she met.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; brothers, Eugene and Melvin; sister, Thalia Smith. Surviving Mrs. Bea are sons, Marvin (Felicia) of Clemson, SC, Malcolm of Savannah, GA and Margaret (Connie) of Indian Trail, NC; grandson, Brooks of Mount Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Ashlee Carmichael Moses (Marion) of Columbia, SC; great grandchildren, Claire and Marion Moses, III; many Nieces and Nephews; Alan and Vivian Gaddy; and her friend and longtime caregiver, Ginger Berry.
