The Lake View High School Wild Gators hosted the Class A defending football champions, the Green Sea Floyds Trojans, Friday night and fell to the champions 42-6.
Lake View did not have their best game. The best of teams have an off-night, and that’s why there are few undefeated teams by season’s end.
The win for the Trojans is only the fourth against the Wild Gators in over thirty meetings between the teams.
Trojan running back Jaquan Dixon found an opening in the Wild Gator defense and raced 59 yards for a touchdown. Freddie Saratto added the point after kick to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead with 7:17 left in the first quarter.
Following the kick the Gators were moving when the ball was knocked loose from a Wild Gator back allowing the Trojans to recover on the Lake View 32-yard line. Trojan quarterback Bubba Elliot found wide receiver Ethan Damron open for a pass that went 37 yards for the touchdown. Saratto’s kick upped the Trojan lead to 14-0 with 4:30 left in the first.
With 1:24 left in the first quarter the Gators had a punt blocked with the Trojans taking over on the Wild Gator 12-yard line. With no time left on the clock in the first quarter Dixon crossed the goal line from seven yards out. Saratto’s point after kick increased the Trojan lead to 21-0 entering the second quarter.
Late in the second quarter Trojan running back Anwain Graham found the end zone on a 14-yard run. The kick was blocked holding the Trojan lead to 27-0 with 4:55 left in the second quarter.
With time running out in the second quarter the Trojans attempted a 40-yard field goal that sailed way off the mark sending the teams into the halftime break with the Trojans ahead 27-0.
After a long half-time break to honor Lake View senior athletes and band members and their families play resumed with the Gators trying to find a way to get back in the game.
The third quarter was a defensive battle. With less than two minutes left in the quarter both teams would find the end zone. Trojan runner A.J. Campbell crossed the goal line on a 13-yard run with Dixon adding the two-point conversion run to put the Trojans out front 35-0 with 1:45 left in the third quarter.
Following a good kick return the Wild Gators responded with Ja’Correus Ford running it in from 19 yards out. The conversion failed with 45 seconds left in the third quarter. The quarter ended with the Trojans leading the Wild Gators 35-6.
With 4:24 left in the game Dixon got his third touchdown on a 27-yard run. Saratto added the final point of the game giving the Trojans the 42-6 region win.
On offense for the Wild Gators: Adarrian Dawkins completed three passes for 21 yards and added 13 yards rushing, Ja’Correus Ford had 89 yards rushing with a touchdown, Hunter Norton had 37 yards rushing, Derrick Bethea caught a pass for 11 yards, Jiqyle Reaves caught a pass for six yards, and Michael McInnis caught a pass for four yards.
