COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD– Dillon County Administrator Tony Clyburn presented a Community Service Award to the Salkehatchie Harvest Camp. Clyburn said the camp had been coming to Dillon County for 12 years to help with homes that needed assistance, and had done a great deal of service helping citizens. “This kind of community service is what we are here for and all about”, said Clyburn. Camp Director Dan Griswold said they appreciated the recognition. In 12 years, they have finished about 100 homes in the county. Last year, the camp had about 85 campers from Massachusetts, Georgia, and all around South Carolina. He said they have been as blessed as the homeowners they work with. Salkehatchie started 41 years ago with one home in the heart of South Carolina near the Salkehatchie River. There are about 2,000 campers every summer, and they are associated with the United Methodist Church He said in Dillon County all different church denominations help with meals, etc. He thanks everyone for their support.
