The football scrimmages are over and the 2019 regular season for the Dillon Wildcats is just days away from beginning. On Monday of last week, the Wildcats and Scotland County Fighting Scots battled to a 14-14 tie through two quarters and a bad snap over the Scot’s punter’s head was recovered by the Wildcats at the Scotland County three-yard line with just seconds remaining in the contest, setting up a winning field goal by Kavi Patel to give the Cats a 17-14 victory.
On Friday in Bennettsville, Darlington fell 21-0 to the Wildcats in the annual Dennis Miller Jamboree of Champions at McAlpine Stadium on the campus of Marlboro County High School. Nemo Squire scored on a 3-yard run to cap an opening 75-yard drive. Again on the opening drive of the second quarter, Squire found his way into the end zone on the eighth play of the drive. Shortly after that score, the Cat defense forced a fumble at the Darlington 16 and on first down, Wildcat quarterback Jay Lester ran for the third score. On Friday, the Wildcats will entertain the Havelock, NC Rams at Memorial Stadium in the first meeting of the two 3A Championship teams to kick off the 2019 regular season.
