The Dillon Area Chapter #5336 of AARP. Inc. met on Monday, March 12, 2018, in the meeting room of The Council for the Aging at 2:00 p.m. with 12 members and 1 guest in attendance. President Frances Tyler presided issuing a very warm welcome to all. The usual opening rituals were observed after which Ms. Leila Smith presented a meditation. The business session followed during which officers and committee chair-persons gave reports and announcements were made.
Mr. Herbert Jacobs introduced Mr. Sonny McRae with Dillon County 911 who spoke to the chapter on the establishment of Smart 911. Mr. McRae updated members on upgrades to 911 in the county. He encouraged everyone to register with Smart 911. After questions were answered, Mr. McRae was graciously thanked for the timely information.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:05 p.m.
Anyone 50 years or above, whether working or not, is invited to join the local chapter which meets the second Monday of each month, excluding July and August at 2:00 p.m. in the meeting room of The Council for the Aging. The Dillon Area Chapter #5336 of AARP. Inc. met on Monday, April 9, 2018, in the meeting room of The Council for the Aging at 2:00 p.m. with 18 members and 3 guest in attendance. President Frances Tyler presided and conducted the usual opening rituals after which Ms. Leila Smith presented the devotional. President Tyler announced the recent passing of our faithful treasurer, Ms. Mary Ann Wilkes, and a moment of silence was observed in her memory. During the business session which followed, officers and chairpersons gave reports and announcements were made.
Mr. Herbert Jacobs introduced the speakers, Latta Chief of Police Derrick Cartwright. Chief Cartwright gave members tips on staying safe while at home and away.
Tips while traveling wee also discussed. tips for personal safety concerning the internet an scams were provided for members. After a lively discussion generated by Chief Cartwright’s remarks, he was thanked for his timely information.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
