The deadline to register to vote is Saturday, October 2nd—one month before the general election. If you are not registered to vote, now would be a good time to do so. If your information is not current, this is an excellent time to get it updated.
The S.C. Election Commission recently sent out these reminders:
—You must have registered by October 2nd to vote in the 2010 General Election.
—Make sure your address is current prior to election day. Check your voter registration information online at scVOTES.org. Update your address at scVOTES.org, print a change of address form, complete it, and return it to your county voter registration office, or update your address at your county voter registration office.
—Educate yourself on the candidates and the questions. Candidate lists and Constitutional amendment questions are available at scVOTES.org. Contact your county election commission for any local questions that may appear on the ballot. As a reminder, The Herald will print t his information prior to the election.
—Vote. If you are disabled, age 65 or older , or unable to go to the polls on election day, you may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Contact your county voter registration office. On Election Day, bring your voter registration card, driver’s license or DMV-issued ID card to your polling place. If you registered to vote by mail and are voting for the first time, you may have to show your ID in addition to your voter registration card.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on November 2nd. Remember that “every vote matters and every vote counts.”
